Yogyakarta (Jogja) Day 1 - Wakeup Homestay, Malioboro Street

Yogyakarta was a totally unexpected trip~

Since I haven't had any overseas travel planned this year, I jump at the opportunity when a friend ask.

Yogyakarta, also known as “Jogja” is a city on the Indonesian island of Java

 known for its traditional arts and cultural heritage.

If you're looking for a nearby destination which is affordable and offers 
heritage sites, landscapes and adventures, Yogyakarta (Jogja) is a place to consider.

We reach in the evening and checked in to Wakeup Homestay 

(our accommodation for the most part of this trip).

We had a 4 person room with 2 double beds and attached bathroom.

The hostel is nearby one of Jogja's attraction - Malioboro Street. 

So we decided to have our dinner there.

There were lots of stalls along the street, 

we decided on one which has Jogja's specialty dish - nasi gudeg.

Gudeg is a traditional Javanese cuisine from Yogyakarta and Central Java, made from young unripe jack fruit boiled for several hours with palm sugar, and coconut milk -wikipedia

To our surprise, the dish was quite sweet, a taste we're not accustomed to.

and since I'm a savoury person I don't quite enjoy it.

Stroll along Malioboro street after meal. There were lots of stalls selling souvenirs and a special scene in Malioboro andong (horse carriages).
